The Global Education Collaborative

Helping Teachers and Students Reach the World

Invitation: The Martha's Vineyard Wampanoag tribal headquarters are located in the southwest portion of the island in the town of Aquinnah. We would like to connect with Native American children to share cultural heritages, languages, and customs. We will use a wiki as a place to communicate fundamental aspects of different tribes way of life. If possible, we would like to videoconference with our learning partners.

Please let me know if you work with Native American children and would be interested in communicating and celebrating with us.

Hi Valerie,
I teach in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Surrounding our city of 190,000 are several First Nations reserves. In the school I teach we have a 50% First Nations population with most of those children being of Metis or Cree heritage. I think the biggest differences between us already are the terms we use to refer to our Aboriginal peoples. We use First Nations, Aboriginal or Metis (of a mixed First Nations and White heritage) and we don't refer to the groups as tribes. The Piapot reserve is near Regina and we would refer to it either as the reserve or Piapot First Nations. I think we could learn a lot from each other and I would be interested in contributing to your wiki with my students.
