21st Century Learning Best Practices

Welcome to a collaborative space that looks at sharing resources specific to the integration of 21st Century learning. As a coordinator of a Title 2D grant, Enhancing Education through Technology (EETT), I am continuously seeking resources for implementing skills and strategies that prepare student learners for success. Our project centers around 'system change' and providing administrators and teacher leaders with tools and strategies to promote 21st Century learning environments in their school districts.
We have developed our goals based on criteria for "21st Century Learning" as put forth by the following sources:
· The Partnership for 21st Century Skills
· enGuage 21st Century Skills

Please feel free to visit our website for more information about our grant project.

What would you consider to be the essential 21st Century Skills? I am looking for a concise list to incorporate into an assessment tool.

I just joined the GEC and my focus is curriculum-related. I am working with groups in Wisconsin to integrate 21st century skills, web 2.0 tools, and project-based learning activities into a new standards-based curriculum. Global learning will be a huge component and I am very happy to be a member.

Hey Everyone! I want to introduce myself and the Asia Society Partnership for Global Learning!

The next generation of high school graduates will be prepared for, or will be passed by, in a sweeping new era of global interdependence. There is an urgent need for new approaches to education to meet new demands. Asia Society’s vision is that all students will graduate high school ready for college and competent to compete, communicate and cooperate in a global environment.

To reach this vision, Asia Society has formed the Partnership for Global Learning. A membership network created to support a national movement of all K-12 stakeholders – educators, policymakers, universities, parents and individuals – the Partnership is working to develop students who are prepared for work and citizenship in the global 21st century. The Partnership provides:
 Opportunities to share best practices, resources, and models to stimulate new approaches through annual conferences, monthly e-newsletters, and collaborative learning activities
 Resources including curriculum products and tools, online programming and professional development for districts, schools and after school programs
 Policy Initiatives to address the need for public policies and actions at the state and national level
 Collaborations between U.S. and Asian schools and educators and opportunities to learn from best practice around the world
 Communication through publications, presentations and digital media
 Research and Development of new internationally focused schools and approaches to integrating rigorous global learning in existing schools

We're also hosting our Second Annual Conference, "Putting the World into World-Class Education" on July 9-11th in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area! www.asiasociety.org/forum

This topic is intriguing to me as well. the intersting part is that it goes way beyond technology, yet teachers prefer thinking that it is just about technology. I think global collaboration is one esy way to demonstrate to U.S. teachers what is going on across the world when they see some of the work of international classrooms. In addition, i think our students have so much to gain be becoming really aware of a world outside themselves.

Hi Jenny -

I'm very interested in the notion of 21st Century skills. I've seen it debated on Twitter recently, and I think the semantics aren't particularly important. In the US, I don't think there is a widespread feeling yet that we need to bring our kids up to par in terms of collaboration and communication. I was recently in Singapore and 21st century skills was a part of everyone's vernacular. There was no endless debate about the necessity; it was just accepted. So... I'm very interested in thinking how we can get more people aware and on board.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help!
