You will definitely have to put the settings on private. I have used it in my classroom, however my school district is going to allow us to use Windows Live for safety reasons. I prefer Skype because more people are familiar with it.

Hi Lucy, I use Thinkquest and now I am one of the administrators at my school for it. I just sent an email to the teachers in my school asking if they would be interested in joining your project about zoos around the world. I will let you know if I…

As a matter of fact, I ordered some honey from WI for our project. My class and I have learned so much this year about bees and I think it is great that you have a beekeeper on staff to teach others about the importance of bees. I was able to contac…

Global Education Projects Sponsored By You or That You're Involved In:
We are studying honey bees and CCD (colony collapse disorder). My project was discovered by a teacher in Germany (teacher for 6-12 grade) and they are sharing their project as bee farmers and what they are learning. I will also have a school in Australia sharing what they have learned about bees and CCD.
Favorite Education Resources:
My school uses ThinkQuest.org for students blogs and projects. I currently have access to a world community of schools that also use Think.
About Me/Reason for Joining the GEC:
I am a native New Yorker that migrated to Virginia. I have been teaching 4th grade talented and gifted class for five years. I consider myself a digital immigrant that wants to learn more technology skills so I can incorporate them into classroom learning. I attended the NECC 2008 along with other teachers and administrators in my district and we are slowly moving in the right direction with implementing technology that is needed for the 21st century.

Why Do We Need Honey Bees?

You may have never even considered a bee except for the fact that they sting, but if bees especially the honey bees have very important jobs. If you happen to love/like honey you can appreciate bees for that. However, without bees and pollination we would not have 2/3 of the foods we eat today. So, if you are unaware of the theories of why bee colonies are dying take time to view the videos and think about what your life would be like if there were no more bees to pollinate flowers, fruit trees,… Continue

Hi Patricia,

I am that "staff beekeeper" spoken of earlier by Laura Love. I presently have 26 hives and today added a queen to a swarm I had to get out of an apple tree last Sunday. Laura now has two of my hives in her garden and they seem to be doing well again this year. You are absolutely correct about the importance of honey bees. When they disappear, we will be eating very bland meals. For me, pollenation is foremost and the honey yield is secondary. Thanks for your interest in a facinating field and feel free to ask me anything about bees. Later

Hello Patricia: thanks for joining the Global Visits group. And, I love your honey bee project! I think too many of us had no idea how important is the honey bee until recently, with important media coverage. And how exciting that you are linking your students with others around the world. Global Visits has worked primarily with university students and are moving forward with high school projects, but not grade school projects as yet. But the reality is that it is within the grade school building that the most exciting uses of technology are taking place, especially with new buildings. We university instructors envy you!
