YackPack Walkie Talkie Widget for Cities Around the World Project

This widget allows one to talk when the press the button, and listen when someone else is pressing the same button, I think. I'd love to test it with someone so let me know if you're up for it. I put this walkie talkie thing on the front page for the Cities Around the World wiki (https://citiesaroundtheworld.wikispaces.com/), too, so that project participants might chat with each other.

Housekeeping

FYI, I've removed the animated map from the front page. In addition to being slightly annoying with its animation, it seems to load down the page and makes it hard for people with bandwith issues to see in a reasonable amount of time. I tend to go widget happy with these sorts of pages, so let me know if anything else is bogging down your loading time. The Frappr map is still available and there's a link on the front page.

Also, thank… Continue

New job!

Hi All -

Just wanted to share that I'll be starting a new job in July at the University of Chicago Center for Urban School Improvement. I'll be a lead technology coach in a charter school two days a week, and developing and implementing a professional development tech plan during the rest of my time. It should be a challenge and a great opportunity to develop a new skill set. I'm excited, but nervous and a tad sad as I do love my current job. At an… Continue

Hi Lucy,

Thank you for the warm welcome to the GEC. Finding urban schools, let alone entire districts with strategic plans addressing global education, was not easy. I've identified a fine candidate in Carlsbad Unified School District, Carlsbad, CA. As I'm currently completing my literature review and finalizing my methodology, I have no findings to report, yet. However, your idea to start an urban schools group (or is there one already?!) is a fine one. I know of several urban charter schools with an international/global focus. I have shared the GEC site with several teachers at these charter schools. Thanks again and look forward to many more conversations!

Aloha Lucy,
Thank you! This will be a very meaningful way to network with global educators. Yes, Judy Beaver is a wonderful colleague. I look forward to hopefully contributing to this network and also learning a lot too. Thanks Lucy! Terrina

Yes lets do it. We could recruit others also. Give me a little time to plan it out.

Lucy your idea fits with what I have wanted to do for a long time I have tried. I need someone or two people who are really into and will really do it. Someone who is committed. I have used ning to do this, but think maybe another way would be better for younger ones. I would be all for it. What about if I contact you in Aug as school is out already for summer. School gets out earlier in Alaska.

Hi Lucy, I'm not teaching this year and so am not active here, however I wanted to let you know about the translation and language scripts and widgets for Ning networks that are available on my network Translated all the scripts are completely free, the network was created with the education community in mind as my way of giving something back. There's a variety of scripts available starting from translating a whole site into 40 different languages, to translating a specific paragraph, adding text to speech, spelling checker and more. I think they would be a useful addition to any global network or project with users from different parts of the world.
All the best
Susan
